Key Concepts:
Please keep in mind what is offered here are the astrological principles involved and only several examples out of hundreds of possibilities. Primarily, Venus rules the Law of Attraction and who attracts you and who is attracted to you. These are the people who will have the strongest presence in your life. Venus’ position in your horoscope reveals your powers to encounter and possess ~ or lose! ~ these attractions. She also describes your esthetic and moral values, as well as your attitude towards financial and emotional prosperity – or its lack.
The sign that Venus inhabits in the natal chart describes the way you express yourself in relationships as well as the type of relationship that you are most likely to encounter. Venus in Aries, tells the astrologer that you are quick to get in ~ and out of ~ relationships and are often likely to meet people where the initial attraction is very great. Staying power will often not be your strongest suit as it will tend to change as other interesting possibilities emerge “from the ethers.” In addition, you would most likely be drawn to people with major placements in the fiery signs.
A man who is quickened by the archetype of the “femme fatale, mysterious lady” for example, (Venus in Scorpio in aspect with Oceana/Neptune), will tend to be blind to the allure of all the lovely, more nurturing but perhaps less obviously sexy women that are around him (Venus in Cancer, in aspect with the Moon).
Venus in Capricorn tells another story altogether and indicates that you are on the lookout for older and/or established people, especially if there is a strong aspect to Saturn from Venus in your chart. If this is a square, conjunction, or opposition in the natal map, there would be a tendency towards conflicting control issues in your relationships. You are either seeking to be an authority figure in people’s lives or seeking to be in relationship with an authority figure, (the whole chart would need to be examined to determine which predominates), but either way, poor Venus/Saturn contacts can make such control issues rather difficult for you (and the other person too!).
Venus’ natal house position tells us where you tend to be most natural in creating these intimate interpersonal contacts. Let us say for example, that a person has Venus in Taurus in the Sixth House of the chart. This is a Venus who is most comfortable in creating relationships that will be financially prosperous, and that provide a distinct level of material comfort. Such individuals are generally found in your working environment.
Venus in the Fourth House has to create beauty in the home. It is here in one’s own intimate (physical or psychological) space that Venus will be at her most relaxed and comfortable. If Venus in the 4th were in Pisces and square the Moon for example, the people she would attract into her intimate world would tend to have emotional difficulties that inhibit their ability to match the individual’s level of romanticism; emotional inequality would tend to ensue. If this same Venus were square, conjoined, or opposing Oceana, (Neptune), then the individual would often attract people with addiction problems or at the very least, poetic idealists with little practical footing.
Venus affects two aspects of life which correspond to her rulerships of Taurus and Libra ~ indicating one’s ability to prosper materially and showing how one will conserve and spend one’s resources, (Taurus), as well as bestowing social graces and an airy nature, (Libra).
Venus offers the power of divine beauty and magnetic desirability to spark the creative process. Venus is the patroness of the arts and music, expressing balance and harmony through color, line, proportion, modulation, melody and rhythm.
Venus also symbolizes our personal magnetism and how we draw to ourselves what we love and value. The necessary social urge to interact with others, but not necessarily to bond with them for a long time. Venus is also associated with the joys – and the tears – of sexual relationships, [i.e., glamours]. On the day-to-day, Venus describes our ability to establish harmonious relationships on a regular basis.
Venus is the cool and soft energy which harmonizes opposing forces and merges diverse goals into a peaceful, cooperative effort.
