Key Phrase: “My ability to be resourceful, productive and stable.” Or “I identify myself through what I have.”
Key Concepts:
The old saw “slow and steady wins the race” is applicable to the Taurus nature and approach to life … thorough and methodical … “the clue to this Sign’s intransigence lies deep within its psyche … Taurus is driven by powerful, lusty instincts which, once roused, are difficult to control.” This makes a stable environment important to Taurus, leading to contentment and security … and to this accommodating space, Taurus responds with love, tenderness and loyalty.
True to its fixed-earth qualities, Taurus can demonstrate bondage to the land and/or to one’s material possessions. The upturned cup of the crescent moon is waiting to be filled with precious things, like gold and gems, so many Taureans are overly concerned with amassing wealth and valuable items. They can have a tendency toward inertia, unless there is a purpose they wish to accomplish and then they have an abundance of energy. As a fixed Sign, they symbolize a concentration of life-force which does not like to be stirred.
Taurus people benefit from being around people who inspire them to develop themselves, especially along artistic lines. They have an innate understanding of the human condition. Taurus settles the lands Aries have discovered, cultivates it and uses it so the necessities of life are made manifest. It is in Taurus that fruits and vegetables begin to grow and prosper. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, and so the Cancerian builds the family home upon the fertile Taurean soil.
Taurus folk are conservative and cautious in how they use their energy, they feel experiences don’t have meaning unless they fulfill some assigned purpose. This can stabilize energies, but also cause a lack of imagination. They often won’t believe anything they can’t feel it themselves or see with their own eyes. Therefore, religion and abstract ideas do not prosper in this Sign. They usually remain with the religion/faith of their family and usually do not investigate further into the realms of higher thought. Unless it is concrete and “real,” Taurus cannot grasp or use it. Their faith must be practical ~ but it must be understood that there are always exceptions and one must consider the evolution of the Soul behind the Sign.
Taurus tends to experience the extreme poles in its desire to have stability … sometimes devolving into stubbornness and stuckness … this Sign predisposes the person to habit and routine … and often fears and resists change [puts them out of their comfort zone]. Taurus’ earthy nature often finds its expression in a delight of the physical pleasures of life and, more than any other Sign, Taurus can teach us about the wonders of the world of the senses. This is why we need to ride the “bull of desire” in Taurus.
Taurus is slow to form opinions, being patient and deliberate in their thoughts and therefore, in action. They are also prone to rebel whenever they feel someone is imposing their will upon them. Far better to use persuasion than prodding lest their stubbornness cause the Taurus to cling to error rather than succumb to another’s will. Stubbornness, determination and loyalty run strong in Taurus and require Taurus to learn from their life experiences, using their fixed and concentrated energies in self-exploration to best advantage.
Because love is “forever” with a Taurus, one must prove their love, (and loyalty), to soothe the insecurities inherent in this fixed-earth Sign. They need to believe the one they love, loves them back with equal passion and devotion. They need constant demonstrations of physical love and caring … they are sometimes overly sexual and demanding. Taurus is a female Sign but its symbol is a bull ~ they may be slow to anger or to take action, but once motivated, are basically unstoppable. Taurus is very family oriented, like Cancer they are fertile, and will always make sure their families have what they need.
Taurus people often have trouble distinguishing between need and greed. They do well in all professions involving land, real estate, and general finance. They are also inclined to make food a profession, whether cook, dietician or farmer. All Taureans have talent in one of the arts, or at least have an appreciation for painting, sculpture, and fine craftmanship.
Planets in Taurus can be expected to “slow things down” … and may add the qualitites of patience, endurance and deliberation … The Moon may acquire the emotional steadiness and strength that it naturally lacks … Mars, on the other hand, might find its impulsive nature frustrated, although it gains in stamina … Venus could manifest as an artistic talent or a desire for the easy life …The Bull is a symbol of Taurus … showing a strong instinctual grounding in the everyday life of stability, productivity and a desire for love and loyalty.
