Will to Unify and Will to Act ~ Ray 2 and Ray 5

Ruler of Leo and the 5th House

“My basic identity and conscious purpose”

Key Concepts:

In a very fundamental sense, the Sun represents “YOU,” no matter your gender. It is about your vitality, and the quality, purpose, and basic nature of your life energy.

From a soul-centered perspective, the position of the Sun also tells us a lot about the nature of your consciousness, your urge to become a fully integrated whole, as well as your distinct, personal identity. However, this may manifest in its fullness only when/if a person has overcome the instinctive, subconscious pull of the Moon … and the tendency to live within the patterns of our subconscious emotional nature and primal survival urge. Once we are truly “born again” into the light of the Sun, it is then that the reality of our consciousness will emerge.

In terms of the other people in our lives, the Sun always represents men. Its position in the chart reveals a lot about our father (and/or primary father figures). Should the Sun be in a strong and difficult aspect to Saturn for example, then the chance is that your father/father figure is the type of person who said to us: “You will do as I tell you and if you do not, you will be punished.” Such people carry this attitude throughout their lives and are thus often intimidated by their need to express their individual power and creative abilities. In addition, as a difficult Saturn in a chart is a “leaden” influence, our vitality may suffer accordingly and we may find that we experience a definite sluggish and pessimistic personality. This would be especially the case should such Sun/Saturn afflictions take place in the fixed signs.

If the challenge is with Oceana/Neptune, the father could have had addiction problems and/or was not particularly present. He could have been a living but “unknown presence” in the house, raising the question, “Who is my father, anyway?” In other cases, the father could have disappeared when one was young or he was a complete unknown. A difficult aspect between the Sun and Mars, will show a father who tended to be violent or too aggressive (a good aspect between these two will often indicate a courageous father), while a sextile or conjunction between the Sun and Venus (especially in Libra, Pisces, or Cancer), would tend to give us a kind and benevolent dad.

In the life of anyone, the position of the Sun in relation to the other planets will point to the kind of men they most often attract into their lives as father figures and partners. Sun/Uranus will result in men who are unusual and highly individualistic at best, or unreliable and erratic at worst. Sun/Pluto reveals powerful men (plutocrats). When the Sun and Pluto are in square, conjoined, or opposed, it will tell them that they have definite power conflicts with such people; when well aspected, that they can share this power or benefit from it. In fact, they may have inherited a strong sense of personal power from the father.

The Sun is the generator of all life on our planet and the motivating power behind all activities. Our ability to focus our talents to realize a central purpose. The Sun represents the “Individuality.” The creative potential that resides within each individual. The Sun symbolizes our psychological and spiritual center. It represents inner life force, vitality and purpose.

Without a strong Sun, the possibility of an individual integrating all of their various talents and energies ~ as indicated by the planetary positions ~ into an effectively functioning person is severely limited. However, if there’s a strong Sun but the other planets are weak by position, the individual will not have good skills to manifest outwardly what is within them.

The essential self; the voyage of self-discovery; the awakening consciousness of the individual … the Sun represents the conflict between the conscious and unconscious elements of the psyche; essentially, wherever the Sun shines, it also casts a shadow: in psychological terms, the shadow signifies the unintegrated or unacknowledged part of ourselves.

Because of its association with the active, creative force of life, the Sun is seen as an essentially masculine energy and a symbol of the paternal archetype, both in terms of how we experience “father” and how this affects the way we access the masculine energy within us.
