“I Expand”
Will to Unify ~ Ray 2
Ruler of Sagittarius and the 9th House
“My search for meaning, truth and ethical values”
Key Concepts:
Jupiter, as our Big Planetary Brother tends, (and prefers), to occupy all the space where he is situated. The primary meaning of Jupiter is “the urge for expansion.” This can be the expansion of your wisdom ~ or your waist ~ for Jupiter enjoys widening the mind and spirit as much as he does dining excessively at Chinese “all you can eat” buffets.
Jupiter is, at worst, a spendthrift wastrel with a touch of panache and if in the social … Libra and Aquarius … or festive, Leo and Sagittarius signs, will be very happy if you join in on the fun. When in a difficult aspect with Mercury or the Moon, he can “alter the truth.” Well, let’s just say that he can embellish the truth within the sphere of his own doctrine of beliefs (Jupiter/Mercury) or be quite prejudiced towards the righteousness of his own emotional take on things (Jupiter/Moon). At best he is a great teacher, a holder of wisdom, a container of the compassion that comes from truly knowing about life. He is also generous with these treasures. As the traditional ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter is the embodiment of the seeker of the Way. He is a karmic and/or academic historian who knows that the present is the result of a series of interlocking cycles of events coming from the past.
As the co-ruler of Pisces, Jupiter’s orientation is for Universal Love and the freedom of the human spirit from any and all prejudices, (unless s/he is a religious fanatic—difficult Mars/Jupiter and/or Mars/Oceana(Neptune)/Jupiter aspects—and then his/her system of belief is THE universal way—an excellent example is the Inquisition.). Jupiter is also the Esoteric ruler of Aquarius and as such, seeks to create and maintain networks of communication that can link the world in bonds of unity … based on the Universal Truths that transcend the Ages and all religious doctrines.
In the natal chart, Jupiter’s sign tells us how the principle of expansion expresses itself while the house position tells us where this particular brand of widening our horizons will take place. The position of Jupiter in one’s chart indicates the nature and development of one’s higher mental faculties. Jupiter goes beyond the rational faculties of Mercury, seeking the basis upon which ideas are formed. While Mercury shows how to communicate with one’s fellow man, Jupiter teaches us how to communicate with God/Goddess/All That Is.
Jupiter symbolizes the principle of increase and expansion; Jupiter enlarges awareness through seeking a broader vision of reality – a vision gained through exploring the realms of philosophy, religion, ethics, higher education and foreign travel. Jupiter has been called “the great benefic,” bringer of good fortune, benevolent, abundance and prosperity. It is a Jupiter function that produces the positive expectation, which later materializes in “good fortune.”
Jupiter takes on many roles in our day-to-day affairs: he is the magistrate dispensing wise justice, the authority in the field of education, the priest preaching moral values, the Explorer pushing back the frontiers of knowledge, a gambler riding his luck or the successful entrepreneur.
Jupiter represents the “big picture,” expanding our consciousness to a wider view. This is the energy that turns experience into meaning and fashions insights into a body of knowledge or a set of beliefs that feed our expectations of life and our ideals.
Jupiter also shows how to revitalize ourselves, how to reconnect with whatever belief system embodies our understanding of the world and, more specifically, our place in it.

The Glyph for Jupiter resembles the number four, but is in fact made up of the cross of matter surmounted by the crescent of Soul. Jupiter’s natural direction is uplifting, always attempting to transmute the grosser energies of matter into a more refined form. The “four” also represents Jupiter’s ability to expand in every direction.
Analysis by Theos:
Theos describes Jupiter as “Transpersonal Love made manifest through Service.”
Physiology:
Jupiter rules the process of growth and preservation. While Mars provides the energy for growth, Jupiter rules the activity itself. Jupiter also governs the body’s largest gland, the liver. An enlarged liver is a sure sign of overindulgence, especially of alcohol.
