The Trine:
[120° with 6° – 10° orb] Keyword: Perfected
“Planet X expands Y by adding its traits to Y’s expression … X facilitates Y’s actions … X and Y together bring abundance.”
Theos assigns Ray 7 and Ray 2 to the Trine: offering that the perfected, balanced arrangement of energies in a Trine are indicative of the influence of Ray 7, while the peaceful, tranquil ease are hallmarks of the Ray 2. The sense that past life experiences and “spiritual gains” should be reflected in this Aspect exemplify the Law of Attraction and Its timeless, transcendental nature.
The Aspect Potential for the Trine: Creative Expression.
Key Concepts for the Trine: Easily combines with, harmonizes with, creatively interacts with … Ease and harmony.
Trines can be highly benevolent by the blending of planetary energies in a positive way, inspiring ideas and pointing the way toward expansive growth. They are also the best solutions to the challenges posed by both Squares and Oppositions. Trines can also be not so beneficial by being the path of least resistance.
The Trine configuration links Planets residing in Signs that are congenial to each other and of the same Element, so that even discordant relationships between Planets, such as Sun to Saturn, are rendered less difficult and their energies combine more easily … however, after all is said, too many Trines in your chart could bring you a major challenge in your life since you experience no major inner conflicts or obstacles … you could very well not have enough fight to achieve a position or goal … or, this love of ease could manifest in a reluctance to bring issues out into the open. In most charts, a singular Square or Opposition, even a Quincunx, [inconjunct], can offset the Trines, giving you more resolve and less waffling.
In contrast to the hard Aspects, Trines are characterized as “a haven of calm,” because the energies of the planets flow so freely in a state of ease with each other … because it is fundamentally stable, the Trine points to interests and abilities where we can find a sense of enjoyment, relaxation and acceptance. A Trine signals that the energies linked do not resist or conflict in any way. They are in a state of equilibrium to one another. However, Trines also have an orb of 6° to 10° and can therefore, have planets placed in conflicting Elements which weakens the Trine making it a much less effective and positive influence.
Whenever one chooses to act according to the nature of the energies combined by a Trine, there is ease of action and lack of difficulty. When Trines do signify events, they are events in which one is passive. Things seem to fall into one’s lap and work out of their own accord … the principle drawback of a Trine is its passivity. Whenever you are challenged by the environment to make a change or adjustment, the energy may be lacking.
“As the self is able constructively to respond to this incarnation of purpose and meaning, one not only displays the faculty of vision and understanding (often-used key words for the Trine), but also ‘experiences ideas.’ On this basis, the self actually begins to transform the outer world and all the relationships in which it has accepted to participate … however, as the self seeks to meet the outer world (or its companion), in terms of ideas and mental vision, the inertia of the whole universe resists the transforming thoughts.” –Rael and Rudhyar.
“Like Jupiter, Trines provide a protective influence. Benefits that come without effort and without any activity on the part of the person concerned. They are the results of constructive service … and harmonious actions in other lifetimes … we create everything that happens, benevolent or challenging … Trine Aspects are the good we have given out, returning to us.”
