The Purpose of Art
There is an important reason Theos has included mandalas as an integrative aid to our studies. This reason extends to our practice of making a Moon Wheel, drawing our Totem Friends on each phase segment, and including the astrological symbols that complete our visual summary of the Phase as we fill in our Wheels each Moon Cycle. And this reason underlies Theos’ emphasis on practicing some kind of artistic endeavor.
The purpose of ALL art is Soul Contact.
That lovely, peaceful, all-engrossing involvement in some type of art opens the door to the mental space where you are able to hear your Soul’s voice and guidance.
Theos wants to emphasize the importance of not comparing your art to anyone else’s. Everyone has an unique expression, an individual gift that is yours alone. They also ask that we transmit if we find ourselves criticizing our efforts. This extends to creating and embellishing your Moon Wheels with drawings of your Totem Friends.
The point isn’t to draw “perfect” representations ~ the purpose is to utilize this practice as a way to connect more deeply with your Totem Friends by paying attention to their forms and thinking about their qualities as you draw them.
There are several steps you can take before engaging in any artistic activity, which will enhance your experience of creating art and amplify your ability to connect more deeply with your Soul while you do so:
- start with Soul-alignment;
- hold a vision in your mind of what you want to do, then add light;
- transmit Divine Will to it ~ be specific in your choice of Will, know which Quality or Qualities you are seeking to invoke and evoke ~ then take some time and allow yourself to feel the infusion of Divine Will into your fields;
- make up a ritual for Blessing your instruments or materials;
- if it is any kind of visual art, play music that adds to an easy, open, thoughtful, loving frame of mind;
- most importantly … this is meant to be joyful. Let it be. 🌞
Beyond completing your Wheel, choose to make the kind of art you love making. The kind of art that makes time pass unnoticed, completely involved in your creative process.
The more you love what you do, the lighter and clearer your thoughts become. The lighter and clearer your thoughts, the quieter your emotions become. This all leads to a gentle, silent space.
It is in these soft, quiet moments that Soul’s voice can be heard and Soul’s Love felt most keenly.
Practice art.
Often.
