Free Will…….

Free Will vs. Determinism?

Of course science would posit this as a dilemma about our existence here on earth. And of course, this falls nicely into what Theos has told us many, many times: We live in a universe of polarity. Naturally we would question the nature of our existence here in terms of duality. Is it this … or is it that? Do we have free will or are we destined to live out a preordained life?

What does free will really mean? The dictionary identifies it as a noun and defines it as: “The power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate;” Or: “The power or capacity of humans to make decisions or perform actions independently of any prior event or state of the universe.”

There are several problems inherent in those definitions. What does it really mean to “act without the constraint of necessity?” This implies that necessity can dictate whether or not we have free will. Same goes for “fate.” If things are fated, it implies there is no free will to be had.

The state of the universe seems a little big for such a personal subject. As for having the power/capacity to make decisions/take actions independent of prior events? Good luck there. We are all affected by prior events that impact our decisions and actions. Does that negate free will?

No.

Free will is generally thought to mean that a person has the power to choose what to do or not do at any given time. In a lot of ways, this is an accurate definition. However, the Truth is as a personality, there is only one thing in this life about which you have absolutely no choice: being born into this reality. Everything else is choice.

So free will is choice. But this does beg an answer to a different question: how much free will does a person actually have when they are uninformed or misinformed?

Both of these conditions mean the individual has no True conception of what their choices actually are. Without accurate information, your ability to make a suitable choice is either hampered or impossible. The choices you believe you have will be limited by your lack of accurate information. Actual choices reflecting an accurate view of your reality are beyond you. The other major block to Knowing what your choices are, is a lack of imagination.

Which is why so often you hear people around you tell you they “had no choice.”

They thought they had no choice because their minds are limited to the choices they’ve always made. They have never used their imagination to create other choices. They didn’t even realize there was a potential for other choices. This ability to consider different, new possibilities ~ which come from using your imagination ~ is a priceless gift of our Creator. It opens the field of potential choices beyond all your previous limits.

And everyone has an imagination. Everyone.

Another way in which people believe they have “no choice” happens when the choices you can imagine open you up to vulnerabilities. Being caught out in a lie or a misdeed. Hurting someone’s feelings. Forced to take responsibility … and other scenarios where the choices available to you, put you in the position of having to do something you don’t want to do. This is probably the most common reason why people think they “had no choice.” Making the “hard” choice is often personally unpleasant. So you tell yourself you had no choice.

But you did.

In the final analysis, we have this expression about “making” choices but so often we don’t even understand the Truth of what we’re really saying. We do make choices ~ literally. We create our choices through using our imaginations … and by calling for help.

Invoking and evoking Divine Will can help us open our minds to new thoughts and new ideas … which always bring new solutions … and with those new solutions, new choices.

Divine Will can also help us face unpleasant choices with courage and grace … if we will allow it.

The choice isn’t between free will and determinism … the choice is choice, itself.
